Today both Apple and Shazam have made statements to confirm the deal announced last week that Apple would be buying Shazam.

First reported by TechCruch, the deal was said to be fore $400 million or more, although no exact number has been confirmed at this time. Now The Verge has revealed statements from both companies expressing that the deal is being made.

“We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple,” said an Apple spokesperson. “Apple Music and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery and delivering great music experiences to our users. We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today’s agreement.”

“We are excited to announce that Shazam has entered into an agreement to become part of Apple,” said Shazam’s statement. “Shazam is one of the highest rated apps in the world and loved by hundreds of millions of users and we can’t imagine a better home for Shazam to enable us to continue innovating and delivering magic for our users.”

Shazam, which was launched in London in 1999, reached the one billion downloads mark in September of 2016, and reported a revenue of $54 million for that year. That said, the acquisition makes sense as the platform already drives users to Apple Music and is compatible with Siri.

Apple’s acquisition of Shazam will be finalized within the coming weeks.
